Welcome

Welcome to LIFE LUTREOLA SPAIN.

In order to contribute to the conservation of European mink (Mustela lutreola), between 2014 and 2019 the LIFE LUTREOLA SPAIN / LIFE13 NAT/ES/001171 project "New approaches to the conservation of European mink in Spain" was developed. This project, co-financed by 75% by the European Commission under the LIFE+ programme, was carried out in the Basque Country, La Rioja, Aragon and the Valencian Community.

The overall purposes

  • Eradication of American mink established within the range of European mink and in risk zones.
  • To increase the viability of the wild population of European mink through releasing captive-born individuals from an existing breeding programme.
  • To create a new monitoring network to assess the conservation status of both species after the project.

LIFE Lutreola Spain was coordinated by Tragsatec, and had as partners to the Government of Aragon, the Provincial Council of Alava, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Government of La Rioja, the Generalitat Valenciana, the Senda Viva Nature Park and the Asociación Visón Europeo.
